ELECTRIC MOTOR STARTING METHODS
DIRECT-ON-LINE (DOL) STARTING: The full voltage is applied to the motor when power is switched on.
+ At this moment, the required current is very high, which easily causes voltage drops and affects other equipment on the same grid; therefore, this method is only suitable for motors with small power ratings (< 5.5kW).
STAR-DELTA STARTING: The motor starts in STAR mode, then switches to DELTA mode after a certain period.
+ The starting current is reduced to 1/3 of the rated current, BUT the motor's torque is also reduced to 1/3, making it unsuitable for motors pulling heavy loads.
SOFT STARTER: The input voltage is regulated by power electronic components.
+ Thanks to this, during the starting or stopping process, the current flowing into the motor is adjusted gradually and linearly, avoiding sudden current surges and allowing the motor to start more smoothly.
